Mondo Cane is a time machine, guided by Mike Patton, a backing band, and a piece orchestra into contemporary Italian pop music, with the usual avant garde flare that makes Patton what he has.
Named after the notorious Italian shockumentary, Mondo Cane presents the latest vehicle for Mike Patton’s post-Faith No More work, some of which has been good, if enigmatic (Fantômas, Tomahawk), and some of which hasn’t (Peeping Tom). The new album features Patton’s careful yet sometimes iconoclastic re-workings of Italian pop songs from the s and 60s, crooned over the skilled.
Mike Patton’s resume is virtually limitless, having kicked off his musical career as a teenager in the band Mr. Bungle, joining Faith No More in and going on to create a smorgasbord of bands and solo releases including Fantômas, Tomahawk, Mondo Cane, Dead Cross, Lovage and Peeping Tom.
